Chapter 2: Report
sed by an exam room, two people inside looked at him in disbelief. One of them was Dong Qingyun, the vice-class monitor from Third High School, who couldn’t figure out how Su Cen could finish his test...Chapter 2: Registration
Su Can sat on the next 8th route bus, which circled the city. It started from a station by Xia Hai's seaside and then looped around, passing through several main routes including the entrance to No.1 High School, making it one of the busiest lines in Xia Hai City. Since Xia Hai was such a small place, circling the entire city only took about an hour.
He found his favorite seat at the back row's third single-seater position and sat down there. Xia Hai being a small city meant that the buses were smaller compared to those in the large cities he knew later on. With only nineteen seats per bus, it seemed cramped by modern standards. Yet Su Can enjoyed this narrow space while riding the bus, as most students' destinations were No.1 High School.
Since it was the first day of registration, everyone appeared excited. Occasionally, you could spot a few beauties in the crowd. Su Can couldn't help but feel that it wasn't unjustified for people across the city to envy those who attended No.1 High School. The pride of being a student at No.1 High might not only stem from their status as the top school, but also due to the large number of beautiful girls within their social circle, which was unparalleled compared to other schools.
The slow-moving bus and streets basked in sunlight; there were no hurried passersby like in big cities. People's faces reflected a leisurely pace of life, as if everything was immersed in egg-white-like foam. Su Can filtered out the chatter from young girls holding onto the bus railings, focusing more on what he saw outside.
A shrill engine noise broke through the current tranquility of the street and inside their bus. A low rumble emanated as a blue motorcycle like a shadow emerged.
It sped out from where they were sitting in the slow-moving bus, its speed varying but soon receding. Its engine whined even more audibly, quickly overtaking the bus and taking the lead ahead, leaving them behind before disappearing. However, the low rumble still lingered long after it had gone.
Suddenly, some young girls' excited exclamations could be heard: "Wow, so handsome!"
Surprised by this reaction, Su Can couldn't help but chuckle. In that era, Taiwanese and Hong Kong dramas were popular, and the most common exclamation in these shows was “哇塞” (wow), which had been widely imitated by young girls—a rather amusing phenomenon. However, thinking about it, did this also reflect a generational characteristic of those born in the 1990s who often used dark, gothic styles to cover their inner emptiness and fragility
Now everyone on the bus started talking.
"Yue Zijiang... The kid's a bit too intense..." said some senior students sitting behind Su Can, seemingly from the third year of high school. Despite the words, there was an unmistakable hint of envy in their eyes.
Several whispers could also be heard: "It’s Yue Zijiang from second-year grade, he looks very handsome and is reportedly a key player on the school basketball team..."
"Hmph, do you think anyone would look at you Come on, his grandfather used to be the former police chief, his parents are in tax bureau departments, and their family background is quite well-off. It’s said that the ex-school beauty queen was very close to him..." A sarcastic voice rang out, silencing the earlier girls.
Su Can smiled; this clearly indicated both the vastness and the smallness of the circle within First High School. This community seemed to have its own unique channels for gathering information and news. Any person or event would quickly generate endless gossip and rumors among everyone. No wonder people say that public opinion is scary, as the network here was far richer than anything seen at Third Middle School.
However, the First High School is indeed always filled with endless events and surprises. For instance, just now there was a celebrity figure, Yue Zijiang, riding a motorcycle to school. Such luxury motorcycles are something you wouldn't see at the Third High School, where the students' family backgrounds and social statuses aren't on par.
Upon arriving at the school, Su Cen went straight to the academic affairs office. Tian Feng seemed busy, chatting with some student parents about something. When he saw Su Cen enter, Tian Feng got up and nodded to him, saying, "You're here."
The way this looked through the eyes of several parents was quite different. They had their own connections in Xiahai City; even as they chatted with Tian Feng, asking him to give a gentle reminder to their children's homeroom teachers, they never saw the usually aloof Tian Feng get up for them before. Yet now, a regular student like Su Cen made this principal stand up—it was indeed quite eye-catching.
Tian Feng took out the class roster and placed it on the table, then said to Su Cen, "You can take a look yourself. If you decide which class you want to join, I'll write you a note that you can give directly to your homeroom teacher."
Since Su Cen came alone, Tian Feng naturally didn't show the same surface-level enthusiasm he did for Su Cen's uncle and current acting director of Xiahai City Construction Bureau, Zeng Quanming. However, he was still quite amiable, thinking to himself that Su Cen had decent grades. In response to the principal's policy of actively fostering top students, this student would be a prized catch no matter which class he joined. But since Tian Feng had promised him the option to choose his own class, it wouldn't do to allocate him to someone he was close with.
Seeing Su Cen actually able to select his own class left these parents whose children were unhappy about their assigned homeroom teachers a bit stunned. They couldn't help but think if this boy wasn't the offspring of some influential leader in the city.
Su Cen took a look at the roster, recalling what Xue Yiyang had told him earlier today that he was in Class 5. Su Cen smiled faintly and flipped to the senior one class five roster, then put it back down and said to Tian Feng, "I'll be in Class 5."
"Xiao Rihua's class, huh..." Tian Feng frowned and then nodded, "Alright!"
Afterwards, he took out a note with the stamp of the academic affairs office on it. It had the prefix "Hereby introduce..." written on it. He wrote down Su Can’s name and signed the date before handing the note to Su Can, “Give this note to Teacher Xiao Rihua, the homeroom teacher of Class 5, and you’ll be enrolled in that class.”
After Su Can left the academic affairs office with the note, the parents of other students standing nearby tentatively asked, "This... Director Tian, what is this child's background How can he freely choose his class"
Tian Feng smiled and said, “There’s no way around it. He was personally selected by the mayor and approved by the principal. Only he gets such special treatment.”
With the mention of being personally selected by the mayor and approved by the principal, everyone started speculating about its implications. The neatly dressed middle-aged men and women who usually judge people by their appearance sighed.
Naturally, Tian Feng’s words were just a polite remark on the surface; in his heart, however, he was thinking that Su Can couldn’t have chosen any other class but Xiao Rihua’s. This really benefited Xiao Rihua. Tian Feng and Xiao Rihua had a few unpleasant encounters before and generally didn’t look favorably upon each other. Now this kid with the note is going to find Xiao Rihua, oh my, it seems interesting.he felt that her grown-up son’s words could motivate her to make them a personal motto."Our situation looks good now, but most of our clients are referrals from my brother-in-law's side. They may not...
